Many people may know that human safety voltage is 36V but a lot of people do not know that human’s body static electricity is usually up to thousands even tens of thousands of volts. However, ESD might not harm to human body, it would cause fatal damages to LED display screen and semiconductor products. That is why people visit LED electronic display workshop will be asked to wear shoe covers, ESD wrist strap and anti-static coat.


1. The damage of ESD is usually happened during the production, transportation and installation. Non-standard operation extremely easy to cause unexpected and potential damages of LED display products.

1). Sudden injury to reduce product quality, increase business costs
Sudden injury means:
The voltage exceeds the dielectric breakdown strength of two LED components or between a plurality of pins, causing serious damage to the components loss of function.This damage can usually be found in the production quality test process and does not affect to customers, but if the manufacturer affect by precipitation statics for long that will increase production costs.

2). Potential damage affect LED product span life,cause losses
The potential damage during electrostatic discharge ( ESD ) have higher damage ratio reach to 90% and will cause the lamp or IC local heating. These malfunctions can not be found in testing. Unstable led product make dying light phenomena revealed,will greatly affect led display screen span life, cause losses to customers.

 

2. Electrostatic discharge ( ESD ) prevention
To minimize the hazards of static electricity on the LED display, we need manufacturers, distributors and clients strictly enforce the esd20.20 standard in the process of production, transportation and using. In production, discharge static electricity by wire connections directly to the earth, which is the most direct and effective anti-electrostatic measures.

1). Production electrostatic prevention : organizing static knowledge related technical training on personnel who use ESD sensitive circuits, require workers to wear a grounded anti-static bracelet. For better monitoring,in the process of lead cutting, plugins, commissioning and after the welding process, Quality must make bracelets static testing at least one time every two hours and then make records.

On welding, anti - static low voltage thermostat soldering iron is necessary and keep it have a good grounding property.In assembly process, whenever possible, use a grounding wire low voltage DC electric screwdriver. Ensure that the production console, glue, aging aircraft such as the effective grounding. Require products are all produce under anti-static environment. On daily operation, LED display products should be stored in an anti-static bag or container.

2).Transport electrostatic prevention : vehicles and packing box keep protective earth. When touch LED panels, maintain the correct access method, do not touch directly above the PCB board and electronic components.

3). Electrostatic prevention by client: When clients and contractors  installation the screen also need to be strictly execute anti-static action.
The steel structure should effective grounding, export the screen body static into the earth.
